Forum: movies Subject: Query about early 30's 8mm films

Hello - I have inherited my family's collection of 8mm movies shot by my Grandfather. These movies (some 200 small reels) document his life as a public servant in British-occupied India, and are not typical 'home' movies. They are more documentary in nature, covering topics of 'The Tiger Hunt' or 'Shifting Camp to Jaipur', etc... He was a bit of an amateur film buff, the original movies were all processed by Eastman-Kodak and often had subtitles added to them.

I am concerned to preserve these interesting movies, and perhaps they are of historical / educational interest. The condition of the film is OK at the moment, (I last watched one about 7 years ago) but I presume that this form of media is fragile at best. Would the Internet Archive have the resources to assist in converting these films to a digital format?

Thanks in advance.

Very soon, the Internet Archive will have the equipment to handle this.
